Iler Campbell associate, Fatema Jivaji, will be moderating a panel on Models for Managing Affordable Housing at the 2024 Summit hosted by the Canadian Network of Community Land Trusts. The panel will explore diverse models for managing affordable rental housing. Alia Abaya from Circle Community LandTrust will focus on their organization’s decision to manage properties in house. Mike Bulthuis from Ottawa Community Land Trust will discuss considerations in outsourcing management to a property manager or a commercial tenant. Joshua Barndt from Parkdale Neighbourhood Land Trust will share why their organization chooses to leasing their units to an operator. Finally, Zack Bradley from Kensington Community Land Trust will present their hybrid model that combines elements of both in-house and outsourced management. Each panel member will delve into the factors that informed each model, including, scalability, operational capacity, benefits and challenges, governance issues, and legal ramifications.
