Nearly five years ago, in March 2016, the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (HRTO) released a landmark case for housing providers. The decision, Welykyi and Rouge Valley Co-operative Homes Inc., was the first significant decision of the HRTO to relate to housing. Although it was a co-op case, it helps all housing providers understand the importance of decisive action when tenants or members harass each other on grounds protected under the Human Rights Code. December 14th, 2020 by Iler Campbell LLPAIS joins WoodGreen – a case study on organizational integration
November 3rd, 2020 by Iler Campbell LLPAn east end café was the setting for an energetic conversation between a leader of a small supportive housing program and the CEO of a large community service organization. Accommodation, Information and Support Inc. (AIS) a pioneer of the supportive housing model for persons with mental health challenges and WoodGreen Community Services, a systems leader in providing innovative solutions to challenging social issues, began a conversation about the mutual benefits of joining forces. Despite the global pandemic, we continued with our plans and completed a voluntary integration on April 1, 2020 into a single corporation, WoodGreen Community Services. We felt it was an opportune time to leverage our combined expertise to better serve clients, who need us now more than ever, with intensive mental health and supportive housing supports. Join the GTA Co-op Network
March 12th, 2013 by Iler Campbell LLPA few members from various co-ops came together recently to create the GTA Co-op Network, with a mission to create online and offline networking and education events.
This informal group came out of the realization that there is a gap in networking and promotion between Toronto & GTA co-ops, and a need to educate the general public about co‑ops.
The GTA Co-op Network’s first step was creating a Facebook group page.
The next step is to host some great events all over the GTA, to promote + educate.
Please feel free to email the GTA Co-op Network Facebook page for more information or/and, if you would like to volunteer, offer space, or have a great idea to spread the word about GTA Co-ops: [email protected]
If you’re not a fan of Facebook, the organizers have also set up a Google email group account. You can join the group here.
Please feel free to join even if you are outside of the GTA.
