Charles is retired after 35 years in the courts.

A good deal of his time these days is taken up with planning law issues for community groups.

He takes a nap in the afternoon and sometimes stays up late reading history and writing plays. He maintains a website where you can read those plays, plus poems, essays, an in-depth history of the planning fights he's involved himself in (which he hopes can be a valuable guide for how communities facing development pressure can influence the process), lists of cases he's worked on, and view photos and notes from his travels.
